Devonport Chaplaincy staff, Cathrin and Darra Boerma, are gearing up for their third successive Solstice Splash.
The husband and wife team are also encouraging family, friends and church and school contacts to join them at Devonport’s Mersey Bluff on Saturday, June 22 at 8am.
Cathrin, who is the general manager of Devonport Chaplaincy, said she knew of several schools who were organising teacher versus student teams, including principals.
Chaplain Darra is also working behind the scenes to generate interest in the annual swim, which seeks to raise $60,000 for use in school breakfast programs, student and learner-driver mentoring, and school chaplains.
Cathrin said while she now knew what to expect with a short, cold plunge, she didn’t enjoy the breathtaking dip.
“I won’t say that I enjoy it, but I know my slight discomfort is providing comfort for others with the money we raise,” she said.
“As a long time member of the chaplaincy team, I’ve seen the enormous difference we are making in the lives of children, young people and families.
“The swim is a lot of fun. There is a great vibe on the day as we all come together for a common cause.”
Sign up to join Cathrin, Darra and hundreds of others.
