Devonport Christian School Emperor Penguins will be waddling into the surf and huddling together for warmth to raise money for school chaplains, student breakfasts and student and driver mentors.
The team of 14, comprising teachers and the school chaplain have already raised $1853 of the $5000 goal set for the Devonport Chaplaincy Solstice Splash at Mersey Bluff on Saturday, June 22.
The team’s fundraising bio says: “We love that Devonport Chaplaincy lives to serve the community.
“Emperor Penguins live in colonies and embrace the cold and huddle together, supporting one another.
“As a Devonport Christian School team, we will take the plunge together, embracing the cold together.”
Devonport Christian School is one of five school teams participating. Leighland Christian School, Geneva Christian College, Devonport High School and Hillcrest Primary School are also fielding teams.
Splashdown is at 8am.
Participants are taking a three-minute dip, and are seeking to raise $60,000.
